Dreaming of Spring: Curb Appeal

Our home. Well, it desperately needs some love. After this looooong winter, it looks a little neglected. Mostly because it has been. Hey, when the windchill is in the single digits, I don't get outside to make my house look pretty. ;)

In the interest of total disclosure, I took this pic a week or so ago. Depressing, huh? The "flower beds" (nothing is growing) are totally covered in leaves. There was a sack of trash on the porch. And the black thing on the white chair? It's a rug. I just threw it on there and forgot about it. Just pathetic. But have no fear. I've been pinning and dreaming of ideas and here's what I have up my sleeve, as soon as we start getting some warmer days and can work outside.

The blue doors and shutters against the orange brick? Just swoony! I'll paint the door and make simple shutters like these:

We would love to replace our front door with one with windows, if we can find a cheap one. We're planning to scour the Habitat ReStore.

I plan to add some beautiful perennial landscaping to the flower beds. I love the height, texture and color variances of this bed. Gorgeous!

I'll also add pops of colors with annuals. I love this combination of sweet potato vine, petunias and geraniums, though I usually buy million bells instead of petunias. :)

Make a fun tiered planter with our house numbers. I love the polka dots, but I think it'd also be fun with stripes or chevron.

Find a large container and make a water feature for the small flower garden. This is going to be one of the more intensive projects, I think. And we may not be able to afford a pot this large...I'm still finding ideas for this. :)

That's what I've come up with so far...I hope that by fall, our home will look like, well, a HOME and not a neglected house.
