Our Family "Rules"

Several months ago I saw this family rules canvas over at the Pleated Poppy and fell in love...the colors, the different fonts, the creativity...so cute!  I wanted to make my own, but I wanted something a little different, not just a recreation of her idea.  Then I saw this In Our Home canvas at Design Intervention and inspiration struck.

I didn't have canvas, so I just used plain cotton fabric and stretched it over an old canvas frame.  The edges were painted with pale yellow. With my new Silhouette, I cut out a bunch of verbs from a few coordinating sheets of scrapbook paper.  I was going to use my Family Rules Wordle as the guide for letter placement, but instead placed them like a Scrabble game.  Was this time consuming?  You. have. no. idea.  Some of the words aren't straight, some of the letters got a little smooshed, the mod podge discolored the fabric, but you know what?  I don't care!  It's perfectly imperfect, just like our family.

This is hanging on the first wall you see as you enter our home.  I had some small frames that got a coat of teal paint.  I covered the foam core board with yellow tissue (crinkled up to add texture) and applied chipboard letters to spell out home.  The photos don't do the colors justice...IRL they coordinate so nicely and add a fun pop to this room. I love it!
